Anyone who orders parcels regularly knows the two recurring problems: either no one is home when the courier rings, or the parcel ends up with a neighbour, at the door, or at the nearest branch. A parcel box offers a practical solution here. It allows deliveries to be accepted even when you're not home and keeps them in the parcel compartment until you return. RS Trade's parcel boxes are freestanding parcel letterboxes made of galvanised steel with powder coating in RAL 7016 anthracite, equipped with stainless steel handles and a separately lockable letter compartment and parcel compartments. They are suitable for single-family homes, multi-family homes, office buildings and company entrances.

What Is a Parcel Box and Who Is It Worth It For?
A parcel box is a lockable container for the contactless acceptance of parcels, packages and letter mail. Parcels are placed by the courier into a drop flap and then fall into the parcel compartment below. The item can be stored there until collection and retrieved by the recipient with the matching key.
A parcel box is especially useful for working people who are rarely home during the day, for online shoppers with regular orders, for families who want to avoid the doorbell during children's naptime, and for small businesses with recurring goods deliveries. For multi-family homes and homeowners' associations, a parcel box with a drop system can also be a practical solution for storing deliveries outside the hallway.
How Our Parcel Boxes' Drop System Works
The courier opens the drop flap and places the parcel in the drop tray. When closing, the item automatically slides into the parcel compartment below. There it is protected from direct weather exposure and immediate access from outside until you open the compartment with the key.
Above the parcel system is a separate letter compartment. Letters and magazines are dropped in through a flap here. Both the letter compartment and the parcel collection compartment are separately lockable – each with its own lock and two keys per lock included. This separation has a practical advantage: if you want to collect the mail daily without opening the parcel compartment, you only use the letter key. The parcel compartment stays locked until a delivery is expected or needs to be collected.
Which Courier Services Can Use the Parcel Box?
No code, key or app is required to use the parcel box. The courier opens the drop flap, places the item inside, and closes the flap again. This makes the system generally suitable for deliveries from various parcel and courier services, provided the respective item fits through the drop opening.
What Happens With Multiple Deliveries on the Same Day?
As long as the parcel compartment still has sufficient capacity, several items can be placed one after another. Several small packages can be stacked on top of each other depending on size and shape, as long as the total volume of the parcel compartment is not exceeded. For large parcels that fill the compartment almost completely, however, only one delivery is possible until the next collection. Anyone who regularly expects multiple deliveries per day should empty the parcel compartment regularly so that as much storage space as possible is available again.
How Large May Parcels Be for the Parcel Box?
The maximum possible parcel size is an important figure. It determines whether your orders fit in the box or need to be delivered another way.
RS Trade's current parcel boxes accommodate parcels up to a size of 38 × 40 × 15 cm. This makes them suitable for many smaller and medium-sized standard deliveries, for example:
- smaller packages and parcels
- book and merchandise shipments
- many standard online orders
- smaller fashion, cosmetics or household goods parcels
Deliveries whose dimensions exceed the drop opening or the parcel compartment, as well as bulky merchandise shipments, long postal tubes and oversized parcels, do not fit in the parcel box. For such deliveries, you should continue to arrange an alternative delivery option.
The exact interior dimensions of the drop opening and the parcel compartment can be found on the respective product page. When comparing, you should pay attention to two values: the drop opening determines which parcel dimensions can be placed inside, while the parcel compartment volume determines how much space is available overall.
Materials and Construction in Detail
The parcel boxes are made of galvanised steel with powder coating. The galvanising protects the steel sheet from corrosion. The powder coating forms an additional protective layer and provides the visible surface. The material thickness of 0.8 mm contributes to the shape stability of the body.
The handles of the two parcel compartments are made of stainless steel with a thickness of 1.0 mm. Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant and well suited to regularly used operating parts outdoors. The front flap and door handles are reinforced and designed for repeated opening and closing.
Parcel Boxes Made of Stainless Steel or Powder-Coated Steel: Which Makes More Sense?
The choice depends on material, construction and the intended use. Our parcel boxes combine stainless steel handles on the frequently used operating parts with a powder-coated steel body. Anyone looking for a parcel box made entirely of stainless steel should compare material version, price and personal requirements.
Construction and Access Protection of the Parcel Box
Our parcel boxes combine several design features that make access to stored deliveries more difficult and allow for a secure installation.
The fixed floor mounting anchors the parcel box to the ground. Floor anchors and mounting material are included. The anti-retrieval mechanism ensures that items placed inside slide into the parcel compartment below after the drop flap is closed, making access from outside more difficult. The parcel compartment itself is locked and can be opened with a key. The letter compartment is also designed so that access to dropped letters from outside is made more difficult. The separate locks for the letter and parcel compartments also make it possible to keep the parcel compartment locked while the letterbox is opened separately.
What to Look for When Comparing Parcel Boxes
When comparing different parcel boxes, it's particularly worth paying attention to material, locks, construction and material thickness.
Galvanised steel with powder coating. The combination of galvanising and powder coating provides two complementary protective layers for the steel body.
Stainless steel handles. Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant and suitable for regularly used operating parts outdoors.
Two separate locks with two keys each. The separate locks allow the letter and parcel compartments to be opened independently of each other.
Material thickness of 0.8 mm. The material thickness contributes to the shape stability of the body and is an important comparison criterion when choosing a parcel box.
Location and Floor Mounting of the Parcel Letterbox
A location that is as protected as possible from direct driving rain is recommended, for example near a house wall or under a canopy. The box stands most stably where the ground is level and load-bearing, for example on concrete, natural stone or a paved surface. On lawn or soft ground, a suitable base plate or foundation may be required depending on the ground, so that the mounting can be carried out securely.
The floor mounting is done using the included floor anchors and mounting material. The duration of installation depends on the ground and local conditions. Depending on the ground, a suitable drill, a matching drill bit and a level are needed, among other things. Anyone who doesn't want to drill into the ground can, depending on the installation location, check whether a suitable mobile base plate is an alternative.
Parcel Box in a Rented Apartment or Homeowners' Association: What Should Be Considered?
Before drilling or fixed mounting on rented or communally used areas, it should be checked whether the consent of the landlord, the property management or the homeowners' association is required. The specific requirements depend on the lease, the ownership structure and the respective installation location. Even with a mobile base plate, it should be checked in advance whether installation at the desired location is permitted.
Caring for the Parcel Box Outdoors
The powder coating is designed for outdoor use and requires no elaborate care. For regular cleaning, a damp cloth with a mild cleaning agent is usually sufficient to remove pollen, dust and dirt. Avoid scouring agents, pressure washers and harsh cleaners, as these can damage the surface.
The stainless steel handles can be cared for with a suitable stainless steel cleaner if needed. Fingerprints, water droplets and light streaks can be removed with it. Follow the usage instructions of the respective cleaning product. The locks can be treated with a suitable care product if needed to support their function.
Which Parcel Box Suits Which Entrance Area?
The look of the parcel box determines how it fits into the overall appearance of your house entrance. Anthracite (RAL 7016) is an understated choice for new builds, clean architectural lines and minimalist entrance areas. The colour harmonises well with light plaster façades, grey clinker brick, exposed concrete and modern front doors in black, grey or aluminium. Anthracite combined with wood-look elements looks warmer and suits houses with a wooden façade, Scandinavian-style entrance areas, as well as buildings with natural stone or exposed wood accents. The wood look provides a decorative contrast to the anthracite surface, without real wood being used for these elements.
